KUALA LUMPUR – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will focus on writing and giving interviews after his party Pejuang’s total wipeout in the 15th general election (GE15).

The 97-year-old statesman said he felt sad that his party failed to win any seats, but accepted the people’s choice.

“As for me, I will focus on writing about history and the country’s events. There are indeed many things that have happened which have yet to be recorded, including events during the time of the British.

“I am also open to being interviewed by writers,” the Pejuang chairman said on Twitter.

Pejuang had contested 125 seats in the election and Dr Mahathir rued that the party did not even manage to be part of the opposition in the Dewan Rakyat.

“All of Pejuang’s plans for the country have to be abandoned. All Pejuang can do is watch the direction that the winning parties will take.

“We pray that the new government of Malaysia will be able to resolve all the country’s problems,” the two-time prime minister said.

He also said he hoped the “winning party will form the government of Malaysia”.

In GE15, Dr Mahathir was defending the Langkawi parliamentary seat in a five-cornered fight and came in fourth with only 4,566 votes. He also lost his election deposit.

The seat went to Perikatan Nasional, whose candidate won by a margin of 13,518 votes over the closest rival, from Barisan Nasional. – The Vibes, November 23, 2022
